Breville is a maker of small kitchen appliances, founded in Sydney, Australia, in 1932. They created the original sandwich toaster. The product was a huge success upon its launch in Australia in 1974, selling 400,000 units in its first year and making the Breville brand a household name in Australia.
Breville expanded their product portfolio into the coffee maker industry, with their particular niche in the domestic espresso machines.
Breville was co founded by Bill O’Brian and Harry Norville, who combined their last names to come up with the brand name. The O’Brian family still run the business in Australia to this day. In 1982, Breville Australia sold the European branch of Breville, which is now owned by Newell Brands.
Breville currently trades in over 70 countries, but was only launched in the United States and Canada as recently as 2002.
Breville are well known for their super automatic espresso machines within the coffee industry. The Breville Barista Express and the Breville Barista Pro are considered to be towards the top of their respective market classes.
Both the Barista Espress and the Pro are bean to cup machines and take care of the whole brewing process from grinding to espresso extraction, allowing the user to have an stress free experience. However, these machines still allow for barista technique to be employed as tamping and milk steaming is done manually. This means that the Breville Barista range are more in line with commercial automatic espresso machines than some other super automatic coffee makers such as the De’longhi La Specialista.
